The League of East African Directors (LEAD) is a not-for-profit organization which was
formed after realising that many East African companies in need of directors did not
have a consolidated reference point for selection and training of active and potential

board level appointments.
Its mission is 'Equipping of Boards for the advancement of East African businesses
and other related entities'.

2

What are your core reasons for existence?

Our aspiration is to see a deliberate improvement in diversity on corporate boards and
that East African business are well led. To make this a reality, our intention is to equip
respective boards through various well-structured bespoke interventions and
solutions.
The focus of LEAD is directors and boards, not corporate governance generally. As
such, its efforts complement the work done by corporate governance practitioners and
entities in Uganda and East Africa in general.
